Threshers Drop Fourth Straight Despite Late Home Run

LAKELAND, FL - Chad Castillo brought home the only run for the Clearwater Threshers (75-44, 31-23) on a solo home run but the Lakeland Flying Tigers (62-57, 36-18) took home a 2-1 win to finish the series. The Threshers return home on Tuesday to face the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels in their final regular season home series of 2023.
A ground-rule double and a sacrifice fly started the scoring in the first for Lakeland, giving them a 2-0 lead after the opening frame. The next run didn't score until the seventh, when Castillo hit a solo homer off Lakeland reliever Eric Mendez on the first pitch of the inning to cut the Lakeland lead in half to 2-1. One more baserunner reached for the Threshers after the homer and was unable to score, finishing the series with a 2-1 loss.
Ezequiel Ventura allowed two runs on one hit with four walks and four strikeouts in 3.0 innings. Eiberson Castellano tossed 3.0 shutout innings with two hits allowed and three strikeouts. Paxton Thompson struck out two and allowed one hit in 1.0 scoreless frame. Saul Teran struck out one and allowed one hit in a scoreless eighth.
