Clearwater Threshers News Release
CLEARWATER, FL - Emaarion Boyd helped the Clearwater Threshers (73-37, 29-16) erase an early 2-0 deficit with a walkoff single in the eleventh to seal a comeback win 5-4 over the Dunedin Blue Jays (51-60, 19-26) on Thursday night at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers look to build off the walkoff as they face the Blue Jays on Friday night in Clearwater.
A two-out double by Blue Jays first baseman Brennan Orf scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning for Dunedin. Boyd drew a four-pitch walk to lead off the eighth and Ricardo Rosario reached on a single. A single by Felix Reyes off Dunedin reliever Alex Amalfi scored Boyd from second and plated the Threshers' first run. Zach Arnold drew a walk to load the bases before Raylin Heredia grounded out to the pitcher, allowing Rosario to score from third and tie the game at two.
Neither team scored in the ninth to send the game into extra innings. After Dunedin's extra runner Jackson Hornung advanced to third on a fielder's choice, he scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead in the top of the tenth. Felix Reyes singled off Blue Jays reliever Leam Mendez to lead off the tenth, moving the extra runner Rosario to third on the hit. Raylin Heredia hit a line drive to third that scored Rosario and tied the game at three.
An RBI double gave the Blue Jays a 4-3 advantage in the top of the eleventh. Ryan Leitch sent the second pitch of the eleventh from Blue Jays reliever Felipe Bello into left field for a base hit, moving the extra runner, Bryson Ware, to third. Ware scored on an RBI single by Troy Schreffler to tie the game at four. Two pitches later, Boyd hit a walkoff single to left-center that scored Leitch and completed the comeback win 5-4.
