Three Tornadoes Homers Not Enough in 6-5 Last At-Bat Loss

August 4, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

The Worcester Tornadoes got the first respective homers of the season from three different players and had a different pitcher in every inning, but the Quebec Capitales walked off with a 6-5 victory at Le Stade Municipal on Saturday night.

Alex Nunez, Cameron Monger and Mike Gedman all went deep for Worcester, with Gedman's three-run shot giving the Tornadoes a 5-2 lead in the third. Karl Gelinas had his worst outing of the season, allowing five runs (all earned) on the three round-trippers in seven innings of work. He walked two, struck out five, and gave up eight hits.

Tony Davis, the side-arming southpaw, earned the victory for Quebec, tossing the final 0.2 innings with Worcester at the plate. He struck one batter out and allowed one hit,the second of the day for Ryan Brockett.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Cam Kneeland came in for his third appearance out of the pen for the visitors. He went one third of a frame, allowing two Texas League singles and the winning run. Josh Colafemina scored the game-winner on the seeing-eye single by Jonathan Malo that barely left the infield.

The Tornadoes had perfect innings from four pitchers: Kyle Regnault (the first), Eric Katzman (the third), Mike Mullen (the fourth) and Sean Keeler (the fifth). Regnault and Mullen each notched a pair of K's.

Bryan Leigh gave up a pair of unearned runs in the second inning on an error by Alex Nunez. Tony Patane-- who made an error earlier in the inning-- got the second out of the inning at second base on a fielder's choice, but Nunez bobbled his throw, allowing both Rene Leveret and Josh Garton to score.

Garton got the game-tying homer for the Capitales in the eighth inning off of Dan Sausville after Quebec chipped away with single runs in the two prior innings. Nick Serino and Matt McDonald each gave up a run to the home team in the sixth and seventh inning, respectively.

The contest was the second time this season that the Tornadoes used a different pitcher for each inning. The other occurrence came two weeks ago to the day, a 12-3 loss at the Rockland Boulders.

Game three of the series is Sunday at 1:05pm, as Gedman takes the mound opposite John Mariotti. Pre-game coverage begins at 12:50 with Tornadoes Pre-Game Live on USTREAM.tv.
