Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The two-time Kelly Cup Champion Allen Americans (@allenamericans), ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced today that goaltender Riley Gill will return for a third season in Allen.
Riley Gill, who is the ECHL all-time leader in wins in the postseason with 48, helped lead Allen to their second straight Kelly Cup Title in June. Gill finished the postseason with a record of 12-5-0 and a .923 save percentage.
"Strong goaltending is a necessity for winning," said Allen Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. Riley Gill give us a chance to win every night."
Prior to his time in Allen, Gill spent two seasons with the Reading Royals of the ECHL, where he helped lead Reading to a Kelly Cup Championship in 2013, along with winning the Postseason MVP Award.
Gill played four years at Western Michigan University, where he was a teammate of former Allen defenseman, Tyler Ludwig. The native of Northfield, Minnesota, began his professional career with the Kalamazoo Wings in 2009. He has played in six games in the American Hockey League with Hershey, Bridgeport and Worcester.
Gill is the second player announced by Allen this off-season. Last week the team announced the signing of regular season and playoff MVP, Chad Costello.
The Allen Americans open the regular season and will raise their second straight Kelly Cup Banner to the rafters on Saturday, October 15th against the Missouri Mavericks. Season Tickets are on sale NOW at www.allenamericans.com or call 972-912-1000 .
