ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - The Alaska Aces, proud affiliate of the NHL Vancouver Canucks and AHL Utica Comets, have signed defensemen Brandon Martell and Nick Cecere for the 2016-17 season.
Head Coach and President of Hockey Operations Rob Murray made the announcement Thursday.
Martell, 27, joined the Aces from the Wichita Thunder late last season. The 6-2, 210 pound native of Andover, Minnesota played 15 games in Glacier Blue, scoring one goal and adding two assists for three points, along with 19 penalty minutes. In addition to the Aces and Thunder, Martell has also skated in the ECHL for Kalamazoo, Rapid City and Evansville.
"Brandon is a seasoned, dependable defenseman," said Murray. "He's not flashy, but gives us steady play we can count on."
Cecere, 25, was signed by the Aces late last season after he completed his eligibility at Niagara University. A native of Des Moines, Iowa, the 6-0, 195 pounder played in 12 games for Alaska, recording one assist with nine penalty minutes.
"Nick arrived late in the season from NCAA hockey," said Murray. "He's a good skater, and played well in his short time with us to earn a contract for this season."
Martell and Cecere join forward Peter Sivak as announced Aces signings for the 2016-17 ECHL season.
