Three Things to Know: Nashville SC at Memphis 901 FC
July 16, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - After a bye week, Nashville SC returns to regular season play as the team travels west to take on in-state foe Memphis 901 FC Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. CT at AutoZone Park.
The Boys in Gold are looking to recover from two straight road losses while Memphis is eager to even the series after Nashville SC claimed the first meeting between the two Tennessee teams 2-0 on April 13. The roots of this rivalry run deep, and though Nashville sits nine spots ahead in the Eastern Conference standings, Memphis will look to make up some ground on Wednesday night.
Here are three things to know about Wednesday's rivalry match:
1. Watch Party at Downtown Sporting Club
Can't make the trip to West Tennessee? Join us at Downtown Sporting Club (411 Broadway, Nashville, TN) tomorrow night starting at 7:00 p.m. CT to watch the match. As one of Broadway's newest bars, Downtown Sporting Club offers a variety of games, drinks and food to enjoy while you cheer on Nashville SC. Drink and food specials for the watch party include $5 Radler beer, 2-for-1 domestic beers and $10 Paradise Park burger. Plus, club representatives will be in attendance with giveaways and NSC prize packs that fans can enter to win.
2. Same State, Different Story
Even after sitting out of the action last weekend, Nashville SC is still well over the playoff line in the sixth spot with an overall record of 8W-5D-5L and a total of 29 points. Memphis 901 FC has had a difficult start to its inaugural season. With 14 points and a record of 3W-5D-8L, the team sits near the bottom of the Eastern Conference in 15th place, two points above last place Swope Park Rangers.
While Nashville SC boasts one of the league's strongest attacks, Memphis' offense has struggled the first half of the season. Nashville has outshot Memphis 253-182 and has outscored its rival 31-16. However, when it comes to goals conceded, Memphis has conceded only three more goals than Nashville.
3. Three-Match Road Series Comes to an End
Wednesday's match will be Nashville's third consecutive one on the road. The first two results of the away stint were disappointing as Nashville SC fell to North Carolina FC 1-0 on June 29, and then dropped a 2-1 result against Louisville City FC on July 6. Nashville has never lost three matches in a row in club history. The only other time Nashville SC has lost twice in a row was during the 2018 season when the team dropped results to Louisville City FC on June 20 and Indy Eleven on June 26.
The team hasn't played at home since June 26 in a match that was abandoned due to lightning. Nashville's next home match comes a full month later on July 27 when it hosts Indy Eleven at Nissan Stadium.
