Sacramento Republic FC News Release
The first of four regular season matches against Phoenix Rising FC this season went in favor of the visitors as the southwestern club left Sacramento with all three points following a 1-0 win.
The loss was the first time Republic FC has been beaten at home since the 2019 USL Championship postseason.
Despite it not being the result, the Indomitable Club were gunning for, SRFC still put on a good show and will look to build on Saturday night's defeat for the matches ahead. That said, there still were some positives to take from the game against Rising FC.
625 Minutes
Heading into Saturday night's match, Republic FC had never been beaten by Phoenix in Sacramento and from seven previous matches - Rising FC only scored one previous goal.
Perhaps the most impressive stat of all heading into the match was Phoenix had not scored in the California capitol for 563 consecutive minutes.
Once the 37th minute rolled around, it had been 600 minutes since Rising FC last found the back of the net when playing the boys in Old Glory Red in California. Santi Moar's strike ended the streak - an impressive one that came to a close at 625 consecutive minutes.
Holding Midfielders Hold Their Own
Phoenix has been an offensive juggernaut for a number of years now and not many teams can hold Rising FC to just four shots on target.
Specifically, Luis Felipe who led the Indomitable Club in tackles with four and 11 times he gained possession back for his side. He also contributed on the offensive end where he led the team in shots and scoring chances created with two apiece.
The midfield unit, and entire Republic FC team for that matter, played very disciplined and for the first time in 2021 the team went the full match without receiving a yellow card.
Short Memory
The boys in Old Glory Red will be looking to return to winning ways with a quick turnaround on the horizon as an assortment of fixtures are lined up for Mark Briggs' men in the coming days.
This Wednesday, Republic FC welcomes Oakland Roots SC to Sacramento for the first-ever regular season fixture between the two Northern California clubs.
After the Roots match, there's little time to rest with another home game on the slate for this Saturday night at Heart Health Park against Orange County SC.
But the action doesn't stop there because four days later, Sacramento hits the road to take on Real Monarchs on Wednesday, June 9 to bring an end to its marathon stretch of four games in a dozen days.
