Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD -Michael Burgess, Bill Rhinehart and Sean Rooney of the Hagerstown Suns have been selected for the South Atlantic League Northern Division All-Star team. Burgess and Rhinehart were named starters at their positions, while Rooney will serve as a reserve.
Burgess has been a stand out both at the plate and in the field for the Suns. The 19-year old rightfielder leads the SAL in home runs with 12 and in outfield assists with 11 on the season.
Rhinehart, selected to start at first base for the SAL North, has been amongst the league-leaders in batting average, RBI, slugging percentage, doubles, and extra-base hits throughout the first half of the season.
Catcher Sean Rooney will serve as a reserve for the SAL North, making the roster even though he spent a portion of the season on the DL. Rooney, a switch-hitting catcher out of Yorba Linda, CA, is hitting over .300 on the season.
The Lake County Captains lead the SAL North in the standings and also in All-Star selections with five, while the Lakewood BlueClaws and West Virginia Power each had four members chosen for the squad.
For the Southern Division, the Asheville Tourists had seven players named, befitting the team with the best record in the SAL.
The game will take place on Tuesday, June 17th at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, NC.
Due to player promotion, the Suns had just one representative at the All-Star game last season, third baseman Leonard Davis.
The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Ticket packages and sponsorships are available by calling the Suns at 301-791-6266. Visit the Suns on the web at www.hagerstownsuns.com.
