Jackets Drop Second Straight

Greenville, SC - The Augusta GreenJackets (34-25) lost their second straight game to the Greenville Drive (33-27) on Wednesday night 7-3. Starter Oliver Odle recorded the loss allowing a pair of solo home runs and the GreenJackets fell to 7.5 games back of first place in the Southern Division.

Greenville's Yamaico Navarro had a pair of solo home runs in the game with the first coming in the first inning with one out to give the Drive a 1-0 lead. Navarro's second was in the fifth inning to put the Drive up 5-1.

Odle (4-4) allowed five runs on seven hits over five innings of work. The right-hander did not walk a batter and struck out five.

Greenville broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring three runs for a 4-1 lead. Luis Exposito had an RBI double then David Mailman followed with an RBI ground out and Oscar Tejeda had an RBI sac-fly to center.

Greenville capped off the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-out two-run single from Manny Arambarris for a 7-2 lead off reliever Ryan Paul.

Augusta's first run of the game was in the top of the fourth inning when Thomas Neal scored from third on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

The GreenJackets added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings on an RBI sac-fly from Neal and an RBI ground out from Charlie Culberson.

The GreenJackets and Drive wrap up their series Thursday night with Augusta sending lefty Madison Bumgarner (5-2, 2.10) to the mound. Greenville counters with lefty Jose Capellan who makes his first start of the 2008 season.

Game Notes:

Augusta fell to 17-10 on the road this season.

Waldis Joaquin worked two shutout innings in relief of Odle allowing just two hits and striking out three.

Nick Noonan finished 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a walk.

Garrett Baker and Andrew Davis each had a pair of hits in the game.

Augusta collected four doubles in the game.
