Columbus Catfish News Release

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (21-38) snapped their 12 game losing streak on the strength of quality pitching over the Savannah Sand Gnats (26-33) by a final score of 2-0.

The only scoring of the game was done in the 4th inning, when Greg Sexton laced a double down the left field line to score Maiko Loyola, who had walked and stolen second. Stephen Vogt then drove in Sexton when Greg Veloz made a bad throw to first on Vogt's groundball.

Jesse Darcy was tremendous in getting his 1st decision of the season and proved to be the stopper to stop this losing streak. He fired 6 innings, allowing only 3 hits while striking out 7 and keeping the Sand Gnats off-balance all day with his fastball, slider and changeup. Justin Garcia pitched the 7th and 8th innings to get his team-tying 3rd hold and Austin Hinkle threw a perfect 9th to record his 3rd save. The Catfish managed only 3 hits against Sand Gnat pitching, but were able to squeak across 2 runs to give them their 1st win when they have less than 5 hits (previously 0-11).

Savannah starter Elvin Ramirez took his 4th loss of the season after allowing 3 hits and 2 earned run in 3 and 1/3 innings of work.

The Catfish are the Class A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
