RENTON, Wash. - Seattle Sounders FC midfielders Clint Dempsey and Brad Evans and forward Eddie Johnson have been called into the U.S. National Team for friendlies against Scotland and Austria.
The U.S. first faces Scotland on November 15 at Hampden Park in Glasgow (12 p.m. PT, ESPN2 and UniMas), then four days later will play Austria for the first time since 1998 when they meet at Ernst-Happel-Stadion on Vienna (11:45 a.m. PT, NBC Sports Network and UniMas). Fans can follow both matches live on ussoccer.com's MatchTracker and on Twitter @ussoccer.
The team is gathering Monday afternoon in Glasgow.
Dempsey, 30, has 101 caps with the USMNT (T-10th) and ranks second all-time with 36 goals. He has scored a career-high six goals with two assists in 10 appearances this year, including a goal against Costa Rica and assist against Mexico in his last two games. Dempsey scored three goals in the team's previous two friendlies against Belgium (May 29) and Germany (June 2).
Evans, 28, has 15 caps and one goal for the United States. He has earned nine caps and eight starts in 2013, and scored the latest game-winner in USMNT qualifying history at Jamaica on June 7.
Johnson, 29, has 59 caps and 19 goals for the United States, including the game-winner against Mexico on September 10 to send the USMNT to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He has scored five goals with one assist this year, and is tied with DeMarcus Beasley for the most appearances (15) in 2013.
The United States is concluding a tremendous year, highlighted by reaching the World Cup final competition for the seventh-consecutive time. The USMNT finished in first place in qualifying in the CONCACAF region for the third straight time, collected a perfect 5-0-0 record at home in the final round, with all wins coming by shutout. After completing a team-record 12-game winning streak, the U.S. has won 16 games in 2013, already a team high for a calendar year.
