Tacoma Defiance News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Three Seattle Sounders FC 2 players have been called into U.S. Men's Youth National Team training camps that run from January 4-13 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Defender Sam Rogers reports to the U-20 camp, while forwards Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez and Ray Serrano join the U-17s. Additionally, three Sounders FC Academy products - goalkeepers Sam Fowler and Trey Muse in addition to defender Blake Malone - have also been called in.
Rogers, 19, started in all 11 of his appearances for S2 in 2018 and recorded 45 clearances and 22 interceptions despite missing several games due to injury and call-ups to the U.S. U-20 National Team. Rogers most recently helped the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team win the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in November.
Ocampo-Chavez and Serrano, both 16 years of age, each played three games for S2 last season. Malone appeared in six games for S2 in 2018, while Fowler made two appearances as they both report to the U-19 camp. Muse, who recently completed his second season at Indiana University, will join Rogers with the U-20s.
The camps begins an important year for the Men's Youth National Teams. The U-20 MNT qualified for this summer's FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland by winning its second straight CONCACAF U-20 Championship. Coming off of last month's Nike International Friendlies, the U-17 MNT continues its preparation for the 2018 CONCACAF U-17 Championship this spring, where the team will aim to qualify for October's 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru. The camp will feature three games between the U.S. squads and a to-be-determined opponent that will be open to the public.
S2 kicks off its 2019 campaign with a home match on March 9 at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, beginning the club's second season playing its home games in the South Sound. S2 hosts Rio Grande Valley FC in the home opener, with the kickoff time to be announced at a later date. Complete ticketing information for S2 matches at Cheney Stadium can be found at S2Tacoma.com.
