Three Scrapper Homers Top Batavia

Batavia, NY-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers broke out the big lumber on Friday night at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia. Emmanuel Tapia homered twice and Erlin Cerda added a solo homer as the Scrappers thumped the Batavia Muckdogs, 9-2 in the final meeting of the season between the two.

After the Muckdogs took an early 1-0 lead, the Scrappers responded with two runs in the third inning. Andrew Calica would double home Gabriel Mejia to tie the game. On the play a Batavia throwing error would also allow Silento Sayles to score to put the Scrappers on top 2-1.

The Scrappers added another run in the top of the fifth inning on a passed ball.

Tapia's first homerun would start the top of the sixth inning. The Scrappers would add three more runs in the inning thanks to a wild pitch, a passed ball and another Batavia error.

Tapia would homer again in the seventh inning before Cerda added to the power show with a solo homerun in the ninth inning to push the score out to the final of 9-2.

Aaron Civale started and took a no decision in 3.0 innings pitched. He allowed an earned run on two hits. Civale walked one and struck out two. Ben Krauth (2-0) earned the win in 4.0 scoreless innings of relief. He allowed just one hit and struck out five. Kenny Mathews went the final 2.0 innings in relief. He allowed one earned run on two hits. Mathews walked one and struck out one.

The Scrappers (29-29) now return home for a three game series with the State College Spikes. Saturday is Cleveland Indians Night with an appearance by Indians Hall of Famer Carlos Baerga. It's also a T-Shirt Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans courtesy of Knightline with media partner Y-103. Scout Night Sleepover has been rescheduled for tonight. Scouts that purchase the sleepover package can spend the night on the field and watch a movie on the video board.
