Wilmington Sharks News Release
The Wilmington Sharks (17-11, 1-0) got the second half of the season started right, as their third inning rally was enough to down the Lexington County Blowfish (17-12, 0-1) on Sunday night by a score of 3-1.
It was Lexington that took the early lead, when Jorden Wren (Georgia Southern) doubled and later scored in the first inning. The Sharks' pitcher, Connor Riley (USC Aiken), settled in after that inning. That was the only run he gave up, and went on to strike out 10.
Wilmington's rally got started when Grant Koch (Arkansas) was hit by a pitch. Mark Donadio (Forham) walked, bringing Clark Scolamiero (South Carolina) to the plate. Scolamiero hit a line drive single to center, but it bounced once and skipped past the center fielder. Both Koch and Donadio scored easily, and Scolamiero even came in ahead of the tag at home to make the score 3-1. That score would hold for the rest of the night, as Shelton Perkins (East Carolina) and Ryan Kelly (St. Joseph's) combined to keep the Blowfish at bay the rest of the night.
The win went to Connor Riley (2-3). He threw six innings, with six hits, one run, one walk and 10 strikeouts. Zachary Kolodziejski (2-1) took the loss, pitching fix innings, allowing three unearned runs, on five hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Ryan Kelly (5) picked up the save with two innings, no runs on one hit, one walk and one strikeout.
The Sharks wrap up their holiday weekend road trip, with a trip to Savannah. They'll return home on Tuesday to host Morehead City.
