Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Expected to Bring Scoring Touch to Training Camp
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed rookie forwards Ryan Watson, Trevor Weisgerber and Neil Breen, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.
Watson, a 6-3, 200-pounder from Lethbridge, Alberta split time over the last two seasons with the South Surrey Eagles of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League and the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. In 120 games over the last two campaigns he racked up 191 points (84-107-191) and served 188 penalty minutes.
The 6-1, 195-pound Weisgerber skated at Lake Superior State until the 2000-01 season. In two seasons as a Laker, he picked up eight points (3-5-8) in 38 games. Before playing at Lake Superior State, he played two seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, splitting time between the Yorkton Terriers and Beardys Rage. In 127 games he amassed 177 points (70-107-177) while serving 75 penalty minutes.
Breen, a 5-10, 200-pound native of Spokane, Wash., has experience at both the Junior "A" and NCAA Division One levels. Breen skated in two seasons with the Omaha Lancers of the United States Junior Hockey League, registering 93 points (36-57-93) while serving 195 penalty minutes and acting as team captain during the 1997-98 season. After his career in the USHL, Breen played four seasons at Quinnipiac University, scoring 110 (46-64-110) points while serving 176 penalty minutes in 118 games.
"All three of these players have fantastic amounts of potential," said Sauter. "Watson is a big guy with good hands who has the experience to score points. Weisgerber experienced a falling out with his coach in college and is ready to show he can still play the game. Breen has a wealth of experience at the junior and university levels. All three will make a strong push to make this hockey club and even motivate returning members of our team."
The signing of these rookies brings the number of Blazers signed for the 2002-03 season to 23. They join Ryan Rome, Derek Stone, Jason Fricker, Peter Arvanitis, Peter Robertson, Ryan Campbell, Jared Dumba, Tyler Fleck, Dave Shields, rookies Josh Gribben, Cain Thurston, Kane Ludwar, Marc Suderman, Ryan Howdle, Cory Unser, Keith Sedgwick and Boyd Ballard and CHL All-Stars Marty Standish, Blair Manning and Jonathan Dubois on the Blazers preseason roster.
