Corpus Christi- The Corpus Christi IceRays of the Central Hockey today announce the re-signing of forward Matt Sharuga and the addition of free-agent forward Russell Hogue for the upcoming 2002-03 season.

Sharuga returns to the Rays frontline after last season's 25-point performance. The Edmonton, Alberta native appeared in all but two of the team's 64 contests and registered 13 goals and 12 assists. His 13 goals were tied for 3rd on the team.

"Matt is due for a breakout season," said Head Coach and General Manager Taylor Hall. "He's one of the fastest skaters in the league and an extremely tough competitor. Matt has tremendously improved his game in the two seasons here and we expect this year to be huge for him."

Hogue meanwhile joins newly acquired goalie Brent Belecki as the second San Antonio Iguana to jump ship down Interstate-37. A native of LaSalle, Manitoba, Hogue joined the Iguanas for the final two weeks of the regular season after a successful collegiate career at Acadia University. Hogue recorded a goal and 6 assists in 6 games with San Antonio.

"I'm expecting Russell to be one of the top rookies in the league this year," said Hall. "He fared very well down in San Antonio for the few games he was there last season and we're hoping for nothing but big things when he joins us." The IceRays kick-off their 5th Anniversary Season on October 17th vs. the Laredo Bucks at the Memorial Coliseum. Great ticket plans are now on sale and available by calling the IceRays office at 814-PUCK (7825).
