Buzzards Make a Strong Goalie Match

EL PASO, Texas – The El Paso Buzzards announced today the signing of goaltender Nathan Grobins for the 2002-2003 season. This fall, Grobins, 30, will enter his ninth season as a professional hockey player and his sixth season in the Central Hockey League.

Grobins has played for four different CHL teams including the Macon Whoopee, the Fort Worth Fire, the Fayetteville Force, and the San Antonio Iguanas, as well as teams in the Sunshine Hockey League, the Southern Hockey League, the East Coast Hockey League and the Western Professional Hockey League. Grobins, a native of Houston, British Colombia, has played in 261 games in 8 seasons and has posted a record of 42-22-4 and save percentages over 0.900 in his last two seasons.

"Coach Coxe knows what Nathan brings to the Buzzards," said Buzzards' general manager Robbie Nichols. "He is signing some great players and our team will be tough and ready to win our home opener on Saturday, October 26th."

Buzzards' head coach and director of hockey operations Craig Coxe is glad to have Grobins, 5'11" and 180 lbs., on his roster and said, "I have had the opportunity to coach against and play against Nathan and he has an exceptional ability. He has been the number one goalie on a number of teams he has played for and demonstrated a lot of desire to win." Coxe added, "I have the best goalie tandem in the league with Nathan and Matt Carmichael."

Grobins' signing brings the Buzzards' 2002-2003 roster to nine players. Along with goalie partner Carmichael, Grobins joins forwards Jeremy Vokes, Derek Reynolds, and Derrell Upton as well as defensemen Aaron Boh, Rhett Dudley, Jason Tessier and Trevor Folk.

The El Paso Buzzards play in the professional Central Hockey League. The team is entering their seventh season of play in El Paso with a home opener on Saturday, October 26th as they take on the San Angelo Outlaws.
