Rockford IceHogs News Release
Kansas City, Mis.- The Rockford IceHogs made their first ever trip to Kansas City to take on the Outlaws and fortunately they won't have to wait long to make a second impression. The Hogs dropped a 5-3 game to Kansas City on Saturday night in the first of two straight at Kemper Arena this weekend.
The only goal in the first frame came from the Outlaws on the power play. Winger Scott Kirton worked himself free in the slot and fired home his third goal of the season at 18:51. Despite outshooting the Outlaws 11-3 in the first period, Rockford didn't register a shot on goaltender Maxime Gingras until after the 13:00 mark of the opening frame.
In the second period Rockford notched two quick goals to take a 2-1 lead, both on power plays. While skating on a 5-on-3 advantage, Olivier Proulx shot home a cross-ice feed from Chris Gobert at 1:44 to tie the game. Then with the final seconds ticking off the Hogs second power play, Gingras tried to clear a puck that hit an Outlaws defenseman and found Brent Sullivan who buried his second marker of the year at 2:47 of the second. The Outlaws would then tie the game back up at two apiece when Mark Lee knocked in another power play goal at 8:10.
Kansas City tallied another power play goal to begin the third period to regain the lead. Kirton slapped in his second marker of the game at 3:25, but the Hogs responded just 12 seconds later. Winger Jason Ralph beat Gingras at 3:37 for the games first even strength tally, tying the game at 3-3.
That's all Rockford could manage on the scoreboard however. Winger Jason Ruff scored the eventual game winner at 10:41 to put the Outlaws up 4-3. With Michel Robinson pulled late in the third in favor of an extra attacker, Joe Seroski, iced the game with an empty netter at 19:26.
The Hogs out shot Kansas City 41-21 in the game. Rockford was 2-for-8 on the power play while Kansas City was 3-for-7 on the man advantage.
