Danbury Trashers News Release

Scott Stirling's 39 saves led a well-balanced effort as Danbury picked up their 3rd win over Flint this season with a 4-1 decision at the Danbury Ice Arena on Friday night before a sold-out crowd of 3,005 fans.

Danbury needed just 3:34 of the first period to light the lamp as Doug Christiansen knocked in a rebound off an initial shot by Mario Larocque to give Danbury a 1-0 lead. They would jump out to a 2-0 advantage after Bruce Richardson's 11th of the season at the 10:15 mark with both teams playing 4 on 4.

Just 39 seconds after Richardson's goal, Andrei Lupandin scored his 3rd of the season, a power play goal that cut the Danbury lead in half to 2-1.

Blake Bellefeuille took a perfect pass from Jeff Daw in the first minute of the second period and streaked on a breakaway for his 12th of the season to give Danbury a 3-1 lead at the 0:59 mark of the 2nd. The Trashers then added another power play goal on Jeff State's 2nd of the year from Daw and Richardson in the 3rd at the 9:46 mark.

The game was marked with a number of fights and game misconducts as the Trashers tallied 96 penalty minutes with Frank Bialowas, Garrett Burnett and newcomer Dave MacIsaac shown the door before the end of the game.

Dan McIntyre stopped 29 of 33 shots in the loss as the Trashers improve to 26-13-1 to maintain 1st place in the UHL Eastern Division. Danbury will host Flint again on Saturday night at 7:00pm. Fans can purchase tickets at DanburyTrashers.com or in person at the Danbury Ice Arena.

Fans unable to attend the game can listen or watch with Phil Giubileo with your Windows Media Player.
