Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, MI- The Muskegon Lumberjacks have had three players named to one of the three All-USHL teams, the league announced Monday. Danil Gushchin, Alex Gagne, and Cameron Berg earned the honors after a remarkable 2020-2021 season.

Gushchin headlined the trio with a first-team selection. The Russian finished the year fifth among all USHL skaters with 64 points, and his 32 goals were tied for second-most in the league. Gushchin's mark of 1.39 points per game ranked third in the USHL among players who appeared in 40 games or more.

Immediately following the 2020-21 campaign, Gushchin signed a three-year contract with the San Jose Sharks.

Gagne was named to the All-USHL third team following a season that saw him at (or near) the top of the league in plus-minus virtually all year. Gagne finished with a +35 rating, a Muskegon franchise record.

Gagne also chipped in 26 points offensively, but was praised most highly by Jacks Head Coach Mike Hamilton for his defensive prowess. Down the stretch and throughout the playoffs, Gagne played on Muskegon's top defensive pair alongside Kyle Aucoin, a duo that Hamilton regularly called the best in the league.

Gagne is committed to the University of New Hampshire and is expected to suit up for the Wildcats next season.

Berg was also named to the All-USHL third team as a result of his strong 2020-21. Berg racked up 27 goals and 58 points, both of which ranked 7th in the USHL. Berg developed into an excellent three-phase player during the season, and led the Lumberjacks in both power-play goals (6) and shorthanded goals (2).

Berg will depart from Muskegon as the franchise's all-time leader in points per game (1.060) among players who skated in more than 60 games for the Jacks. Cameron will move on to the NCAA ranks next season and play for the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
