Three key Aces promoted to AHL

November 15, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Chris Beckford-Tseu, the top goaltender in the ECHL, has been reassigned to Peoria (AHL) by Alaska's NHL affiliate in St. Louis, while defenseman Stephen Wood and forward Kevin Croxton, the Aces leading goal-scorer, have been recalled to the AHL by the Rivermen.

Beckford-Tseu, who stopped 28 shots for Peoria in its season-opening win over Omaha October 6, picked up three straight wins for the Aces, allowing just three goals and stopping better than 96 percent of the shots he faced. A 6-0 shutout at Utah Friday marked his sixth in an Alaska sweater, and he heads back to the Rivermen as the ECHL leader in goals against average (0.97) and save percentage (.963). A fifth-round pick of St. Louis in the 2003 NHL Draft, the 22-year-old Beckford-Tseu will fly to Grand Rapids (Mich.) tonight in preparation for Peoria's Friday match-up with the Griffins.

Wood, a member of Trenton's 2005 Kelly Cup championship team, joined the Aces at the start of their five-game road trip two weeks ago in Bakersfield, scoring twice and finishing even with 20 minutes in penalties during his time in an Alaska uniform. He has a +1 rating in four games with the Rivermen this season.

Croxton leads the Aces with six goals (no one else on the roster has more than four) and has two assists to his credit through nine games. He scored the eventual game-winner Opening Night, a 5-3 decision over Victoria October 20, and has played solid defensively, with a +3 rating and just one minor penalty. The 24-year-old Croxton set a school record for games played (147) at NCAA Division I RPI and participated with the Blues at the annual NHL Prospects Tournament two months ago in Traverse City (Mich.)

Alaska, currently 6-3 and sitting in third place in the West Division, open a three-game series at home tomorrow night against Las Vegas (4-1-7) at 7:15 p.m. The Wranglers blew leads of 4-1 and 5-3 last night in an eventual 6-5 shootout loss to Phoenix, which took over second place in the West at 7-6 overall. Las Vegas has lost five of six shootouts this season and two other games in OT. The Aces and Wranglers also will play Saturday at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday at 1:05 p.m.

All three games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with live coverage starting 15 minutes before the opening face-off. Tickets are now available at the Aces office, www.alaskaaces.com, and all Fred Meyer locations in Anchorage. Fans also may call Ticketmaster at 562-4800.
