Three In A Row For The Spirit

July 30, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
North Shore Spirit News Release

The North Shore Spirit extended their winning streak to three games Saturday night with a 9-2 victory over the Elmira Pioneers.

Jake Mullis (3-3) tossed seven strong innings to pick up the win. Mullis allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out six. Brian Ford took the loss for Elmira. Ford surrendered three runs over his five innings of work.

North Shore opened the scoring in the bottom of first. Rob Fischer connected for his 9th homerun of the season, a solo shot over the fence in center.

The Spirit would extend their advantage in the second. Brian Macchi led off with a double and scored two batters later on sacrifice fly by Marcos Agramonte.

In the fifth, the Spirit tacked on another run thanks to a shaky Elmira defense. An error by shortstop Ryan Dorsey, a pass ball on Onix Mercado, and a wild pitch by Ford allowed Fischer to cross the plate with North Shore's third run of the evening.

The Pioneers inched closer in the top of the sixth. Back-to-back-to-back singles by Dorsey, Jason Tuttle and Das Jesson loaded the bases with no outs. A double play ball off the bat of Trey Beamon made the score 3-1. Mullis escaped any further harm by getting Jeremy Booth to ground to second to end the inning.

North Shore responded with six runs in the bottom half of the inning. Yuri Sanchez picked up a pair of RBI's with a base hit that plated Macchi and Eric Storey. Fischer continued his big night with a single that drove home Sanchez. Travis Oglesby collected RBI number 42 and 43 of the season with a base hit that scored Garrett Weir and Fischer.

Trailing 9-1 in the seventh, Elmira scratched across a run thanks to a double by Jabe Bergeron and a sac fly from Juan Rodriguez.

The win improves the Spirit's second half to 7-6.

North Shore and Elmira play the finale of their four game series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 pm.
