Cutters Victory Added by Four Run Inning

July 30, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release

The New Haven County Cutters scored four times in the bottom of the seventh inning to grab a 5-1 lead over the Quebec Les Capitales on Saturday night, seizing control of a game they would eventually win 6-3 before a boisterous crowd at Yale Field.

Having had little success off of Quebec's starter, Marcos Castillo, up until that point, the Cutters bats suddenly came alive in the seventh frame. Bill Peavey, who has now hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games, singled to get things underway, with Jeff Brooks following with another one bagger. New signing Junior Zamora, who had an RBI triple in his second at bat with the team earlier in the game, reached on a fielder?s choice that saw Peavey forced out at third. With two men on, Andy Larned singled home Brooks. An already productive inning got even bigger when Mike LaRosa drove in Zamora and Larned. Keto Anderson completed the offensive outburst with a double down the rightfield line that plated LaRosa.

The following inning Peavey launched a majestic home run that was a no-doubter right off the bat. The shot, which cleared the right-centerfield wall with ease, was his team leading 11th of the year.

For the second night in a row, a Cutters starter pitched into the ninth. On this night, southpaw Rolando Valles was victorious. He scattered nine hits during his outing, giving up three earned runs and striking out six Les Capitales. Quebec?s RBI machine Eddie Lantigua drove in a pair of runs, giving him 78 for the season.

Sunday is the final time these two teams will meet in the regular season. The Cutters have taken two of three against Les Capitales this series and will look to win back-to-back games to finish off the four-game set. New Haven County's Jarrett Stawarz (5-4), currently second in the Can-Am League in ERA (2.41), squares off against Coogie Freedman (5-1). Kids eat free at Yale Field on Sundays and have a chance to run the bases after the game.
