Houston Dash News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dash defenders Lindsay Agnew and Allysha Chapman, along with midfielder Sophie Schmidt, were named to the Canadian Women's National Team for a friendly against Japan on Oct. 6, the Canadian Soccer Association announced earlier today.
Canada returns to international action after winning bronze at the 2019 Algarve Cup in Portugal and advancing to the Round of 16 in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. All three Dash players were members of Canada's World Cup squad earlier this summer. Canada will travel to Asia to face the Japan Women's National Team at 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 6 as both teams begin their campaigns towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Agnew made her debut with the Canadian senior team in 2017 and has earned 11 caps. Chapman has represented Canada in two World Cups, playing every minute of five games in Canada's run in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup and appearing in all four games of the 2019 World Cup. The defender has tallied 68 appearances for Canada since 2014.
Schmidt has been part of Canada's national team since 2005 and made her fourth World Cup appearance this summer in France. The midfielder is 15 appearances shy of earning her 200th cap for Canada, having scored a total of 19 goals. At the 2019 Algarve Cup in Portugal, Schmidt scored the first penalty kick for Canada in the decisive penalty shootout against Sweden in the bronze medal game.
Agnew, Chapman and Schmidt will miss Houston's historic visit to Monterrey, Mexico to take on LigaMX Femenil powerhouse Tigres U.A.N.L. on Oct. 5, but will be available for Houston's season finale at Utah Royals FC on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Rio Tinto Stadium. That match will be streamed live on Yahoo! Sports.
