Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, CO- The defending champion Colorado Eagles scored three unanswered goals in the third period to beat the Tulsa Oilers 4-2 Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center. Nick Parillo scored the game winning goal with 2:31 remaining in the final period to give the Eagles their fifth consecutive win over the Tulsa Oilers. Ryan Tobler and Riley Nelson each had a goal and two assists for Colorado who remains in first place in the Northwest Division with a record of 20-6-1 for 41 points.
The Eagles and Oilers were each held without a goal in the first period. Colorado was 0-2 on the power play and Tulsa didn't convert their only chance. The Eagles out shot Tulsa 11-8 in the period.
Drew Otten put Tulsa on the board first when he flicked a backhand that bounced off Eagles goaltender Jeff Blair and into the net. Less than two minutes later, the Eagles tied the game on a power play goal by Greg Pankewicz. Brad Williamson let a slap shot loose that was deflected on goal by Ryan Tobler, Oilers goaltender Chris King made the save on Tobler, but couldn't save Pankewicz's rebound and the Eagles tied the game at one. Tulsa took a 2-1 lead on a blast from outside the right wing circle by Mario Joly that snuck under the right arm of Blair at the 11:30 mark of the second period. Joly's goal proved to be the final goal of the period and Tulsa took their lead into the second intermission, although it was the Eagles that were winning the battle in shots 27-20.
Ryan Tobler quickly tied the game in the third period for Colorado when he beat King at the 2:42 mark on the Eagles second power play goal of the game. The teams battled for nearly the remainder of the third period until Nick Parillo, fresh off the injured reserve, scored on his second effort giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead with 2:31 remaining in the game. Parillo's goal became the game winner, but the Eagles added one more off the stick of Riley Nelson, an empty net goal to make the final score 4-2.
The Eagles next game is in Fort Worth against the Brahmas on Wednesday, December 28. Tune into 99.9 The Point and Tori Holt for all Eagles broadcasts.
