Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

Youngstown, OH - The Youngstown SteelHounds (11-14-1) jumped all over the Amarillo Gorillas (11-11-2) exploding for a four-goal second period ending the Gorillas seven-game win streak in the 7-1 victory. Darryl Lloyd and Jeff Christian each scored a pair of goals and Jonathan Gagnon and Dan Buccella each registered three helpers earning the Hounds their fourth victory in their last five games on home ice.

The Hounds responded to last night's loss with a strong first period initiated by a first period power play goal scored by Jeff Alcombrack, his third of the season. Chris Richards and Jonathan Gagnon drew the assists at the 4:02 mark of the period. Amarillo answered on the next Hounds power play with a shorthanded goal by Scott Wray, his 11th goal of the season and third in the last two nights. Mark Strozda drew the only assist at the 12:38 mark. The Hounds answered with two minutes remaining in the period just three seconds after a power play chance had expired. Dan Buccella made a nice play along the boards and found Jeff Christian in front of the net for his 24th goal of the season. Buccella and Darryl Lloyd drew the assists at the 18:00 mark of the period. Amarillo outshot the SteelHounds 13-10 in the period as David St. Germain made 12 saves and Shawn Degagne stopped eight shots.

The second period belonged to the Hounds as they rattled off four goals in the period. Shawn Mamane started the scoring with his third goal of the season on a shot that Degagne would probably admit he should have stopped. For Mamane it was his third goal of the season. Then Darryl Lloyd took over scoring twice in a 1:10 span. The two goals for Lloyd were his 11th and 12th of the season. Jonathan Gagnon drew the lone assist on both of Lloyd's goals. Youngstown capped off the four goal period with Chris Shaffer crashing the net and banging a shot by Jamie Vandespyker for his first professional goal. The Hounds outshot the Gorillas 15-8 in the period.

In the third period, the only goal was scored by Christian, his 25th of the year, in a very strange sequence. The Hounds Captain took a puck in his own end and walked up the ice while shorthanded by two skaters. He went through three Gorillas and wristed it by Vandespyker for his second goal of the night. The Gorillas kept pressure on St. Germain recording 19 shots but he turned them all aside finishing the night with 39 saves earning his seventh victory of the season.

The Gorillas finished the game outshooting the Hounds 40-37.

Youngstown begins a six-game road trip on Tuesday night in Memphis. Face-off is scheduled for 8:05 PM (EST).
