Three-Goal Rally Pushes Huntsville Past 'Gators

Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, Louisiana-The Huntsville Havoc scored three goals in the final six minutes of the second period en route to a 5-4 victory over the Louisiana IceGators. Five different players scored for the Havoc, who were outshot 32-25 in the contest.

Momentum was the name of the game. The Havoc gained it midway through the first on a Gabriel Boutin-Gagnon goal. The IceGators tied the game 63 seconds into the second on a Jason Hill score. As soon as it seemed the IceGators had turned the tide of the match in their favor, Huntsville came back to suck the life out of the home team. The Havoc (Brad Flynn) and the Gators (Alex Morton) traded goals before Huntsville unleashed a flurry of three goals--scored by Dennis Sicard, Ray Ortiz, and Ryan Kretzer--that would ultimately seal the IceGators' fate. The Gators scored two unanswered goals in the third period (Kevin Beauregard and Brayden Metz) to make cut their deficit to one, but the Havoc held on for the victory.

Jason Hill attributed the IceGators' defeat to a very sluggish effort in the first 40 minutes. "We got off to a slow start in the first and second period," he said. "We weren't taking the puck deep or making hits, and it cost us. We did well in the third, but it was too little, too late." Brayden Metz agreed. "When we decided to play, we took over the game and played our style of hockey," he said. "In the third, you saw us win more battles, win more faceoffs, and get to the net. The communication was better. There were no shots against us." Metz added, "We have to give a full 60 minutes tomorrow afternoon. We need to get greasy and get those hard goals. We can't get fancy." Hill said, "We need to be more physical and get to the net. We created their goals by allowing them to get to the net. We have to be better prepared and stick to our system. It's drawn up for a reason, and it works when we apply it."

The Louisiana IceGators return to the ice tomorrow afternoon when they host the Pensacola IceFlyers in the Cajundome. The game is set to begin at 3:05 P. M. The IceGators are hosting a book drive for the Lafayette Public Library. Fans are encouraged to bring a new book to donate to the library system.
