Connecticut Sun News Release
UNCASVILLE, CT. (April 22, 2004) â Patriot League Player of the Year Katie Macfarlane, a 6-foot-0 forward who is the all-time leading scorer and rebounder Army women's basketball history, was one of three players to earn an invitation to the Connecticut Sun's training camp following a two-day free agent mini-camp at Conn College.
A total of 37 free agents competed during three sessions on Wednesday and Thursday at Conn's Luce Fieldhouse. Macfarlane, George Mason University guard Jen Derevjanik and Seton Hall forward Texlin Quinney made the final cut. Training camp opens for the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.
Macfarlane finished her career at Army with 1,941 career points (16.7 ppg) and 1,143 rebounds (9.9 rpg), and was the only four-time All-Patriot League selection in program history.
The 5-foot-10 Derevjanik was a first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association pick last season for George Mason, averaging 17.2 points per game for the Patriots. Quinney is a 6-0 forward who became the first player in school history to make a WNBA roster, playing for the Indiana Fever after graduating from Seton Hall in 1996.
In another move, the Sun released veteran guard Adrienne Johnson, who averaged 5.1 points per game last season.
