Three Dash Players Called up to Canada National Team for April Friendlies

Houston Dash defender Allysha Chapman, midfielder Sophie Schmidt and forward Nichelle Prince were named to the Canadian Women's National Team to train and play a pair of friendly matches in Europe, Canada Soccer announced today. The three Dash players will join CanWNT from April 4-13 to face Wales (April 9, 12 p.m. CDT) and England (April 13, 1:15 p.m. CDT).

Chapman has represented Canada in two FIFA Women's World Cups, playing every minute in five games during the team's quarterfinal run on home soil in 2015 and appearing in all four games of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. The defender has earned 60 starts in 77 appearances for Canada, scoring one goal and providing three assists.

A key part of Houston's backline, Chapman enters her fourth year with the club since re-joining in 2018. The experienced defender initially signed for the club in 2015 after two years in Europe and played for Houston from 2015-16. Across both stints with the Dash, Chapman has started in 50 of 52 appearances and has recorded one assist.

Prince has scored 11 goals and tallied 10 assists in her 62 career appearances for Canada. The forward lifted Canada over New Zealand with her first World Cup goal on June 15, 2019 helping Canada qualify for the knockout round.

Prince joined Houston in 2017 and has earned 40 starts in 57 appearances tallying six goals and three assists with the club. The forward scored the opening goal of the 2019 season for the Dash against Reign FC in April, and more recently scored the opening goal in the Dash's 3-1 victory over Orlando Pride during the 2020 Fall series in September.

One of Canada's veterans, Schmidt first joined the national team since 2005 and made her fourth World Cup appearance in France during the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. Schmidt has 201 senior caps for Canada and has tallied 19 goals and 20 assists. Schmidt was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame on October 23, 2019.

Schmidt started in nine out of 11 games played last year for Houston, scoring four goals and tallying one assist. The midfielder scored in four consecutive matches, beginning when she converted a penalty kick that proved to be the match-winner over Chicago in the NWSL Challenge Cup Final on July 26. During the Fall Series, the Canadian international earned NWSL Player of the Week honors during the second week after scoring a goal, tallying an assist and playing a crucial role in the Dash's 3-1 victory against the Orlando Pride on Sept. 28.
