
Three Capitales Homers Down Tornadoes 9-1

Rene Leveret hit a three-run homerun in the first inning, and the Capitales piled on runs late as they defeated the Tornadoes 9-1 on Saturday night at Le Stade Municipal. Karl Gelinas (5-2) picked up the win for the Capitales after losing his last start against the Tornadoes, while Zach Zuercher's 13-inning scoreless streak came to an end early in his loss (5-3).
Tornadoes pitchers gave up three homers, with Seth Henry and Sebastien Boucher hitting the other two.
Zuercher retired eight in a row and 13 of 14 Capitales batters after Leveret's game-winning blast, but the first four batters recorded hits against him leading off the sixth inning. He finished his outing with six strikeouts, two walks, nine hits given up and seven runs allowed (all earned).
Matt McDonald pitched two thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on four hits. Mike Gedman went 1.1 innings, striking out a pair of Quebec Capitales, walking one and allowing two hits.
Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm, with Ryan Bicondoa starting for the Tornadoes.
Alex Nunez extended his hitting streak to 18 games with a 3-for-4 night. Abraham Nunez reached in his 14th straight game with a walk, while Chris Colabello and Mark Minicozzi both extended their hit streaks to 14 games. Alex Trezza (6), Cam Monger (6) and Ryan Crespi (7) all extended their hitting streaks as well, while Nick Salotti scored the only run and continued his 14-game on-base streak.
