
Three Blast Players Named All-MISL

Baltimore, MD - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today the players selected to receive All-MISL First- and Second-Team honors for the 2007-08 MISL regular season. Blast goalkeeper Sagu represented Baltimore on the First Team and midfielder Denison Cabral and defender P.J. Wakefield were named to the Second Team.
"I'm happy that Sagu, Denison and P.J. have been honored for their achievements this year," said Blast President and General Manager Kevin Healey. "Their play, along with the play of the rest of the team, have put us into the MISL Championship game this weekend."
Sagu, a six-year veteran of the MISL, led the League with a 8.32 points against average and ranked second with a .741 save percentage. He played in 25 games and went 14-9 on the season; he is 4-0 so far in the postseason. A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Sagu was a four-time Goalkeeper of the Week selection this season. This is Sagu's third consecutive All-MISL honor; he was a Second-Team selection in 2007 and 2006. Prior to joining the MISL, he spent four seasons playing for the Dallas Sidekicks of the WISL and was a two-time WISL Goalkeeper of the Year (2000 and 2001).
Cabral, Baltimore's all-time regular season and postseason scoring leader, led the Blast and ranked fifth in the MISL with 88 points this season. He also led the League with 16 power-play goals. Cabral recorded 36 goals (four three-point goals and 32 two-point goals) and 12 assists in 29 games regular season games and has 15 points so far in the postseason. Cabral, an MISL Player of the Week Selection in February, recorded the 800th point of his career on December 1st in the 300th game of his career. This is Cabral's fourth Second-Team All-MISL selection.
Wakefield, a graduate of Calvert Hall and UMBC, led the Blast's defenders and ranked fifth on the team with 40 points and led the team with 41 blocks. A six-year veteran and the 2003 MISL Rookie of the Year, Wakefield is in his third season as team captain. This is his first All-MISL selection.
The MISL postseason awards were voted on by MISL member teams' management and selected members of the media from each city. Each voter was asked to select one goalkeeper, three forwards/midfielder and two defenders for each team.
The Baltimore Blast will play the Monterrey La Raza Saturday night in the 2008 MISL Championship. The Championship Game will be played at Milwaukee's U.S. Cellular Arena and will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. The Blast, who won the MISL Title in 2003, 2004 and 2006 swept the New Jersey Ironmen in the Quarterfinals and the Milwaukee Wave in the Semifinals to advance to their fourth Championship in six years.
