The Somerset Patriots defeated the Hartford Yard on Friday night at TD Bank Ballpark, winning by a final score of 8-1.
The win improved Somerset's season record vs. Hartford to 12-4. In 16 games vs. the Yard Goats, the Patriots have outscored them 102-52, a run differential of +50.
RHP Drew Thorpe (6.1 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 9 K) carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and allowed only three baserunners in his third Double-A start.
Since making his Double-A debut on August 11, Thorpe is undefeated with a record of 3-0, a 1.29 ERA and 30 K in 29.0 IP. Thorpe's 30 strikeouts during that span lead. The Eastern League.
Thorpe ends the night remaining the Minor League Baseball leader in strikeouts with 168.
RF Grant Richardson (3-for-5, 3 RBI, R, HR, K) picked up his first three Double-A hits, including his first Double-A home run in the sixth inning.
The 3 RBIs matched Richardson's season-high mark (also on April 25 @ Greenville in High-A), while it was his first time accomplishing the feat at the Double-A level.
2B Caleb Durbin (2-for-5, RBI, 2 R, 2B) extended his hit streak to five games in which he is 8-for-20 (.400 AVG).
DH Ben Rice (2-for-4, R, BB) reached base three times and registered his 12th multi-hit game out of 30 games at the Double-A level.
