Portland Thorns FC News Release


PORTLAND, Ore. - Facing a quick turnaround, Portland Thorns FC return home to play host to the Houston Dash, in a match presented by Pelican Brewing, on Wednesday, July 24, at Providence Park. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), the match will be broadcast on Yahoo! Sports.

Prior to kick off on Wednesday, the club will honor the nine Thorns FC players who competed at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. Wednesday's match also marks a homecoming for U.S. Women's National Team players Adrianna Franch, Tobin Heath, Lindsey Horan and Emily Sonnett, as their first game back at Providence Park since winning the World Cup.

Recent form

Portland (6-2-5, 23pts) extended its road unbeaten streak to four games (2-0-2), earning a 2-2 draw against Utah Royals FC on July 19. Christine Sinclair scored for a second consecutive match, recording her fifth goal of the 2019 season, while Franch, Heath, Horan and Sonnett made their first appearances for Thorns FC since returning from France. Since May 25, Portland has lost just once, posting a record of 4-1-3 during that span.

Home-field advantage

Dating back to 2016, Thorns FC have posted a record of 26-6-6 at Providence Park, outscoring opponents 79-37 during that span. Thorns FC have earned at least one point in nine of their last 10 regular-season home matches (6-1-3). Since 2016, Portland has scored in 35 of its 38 home matches.

Against Houston

Wednesday's match marks the 15th meeting all-time between Portland and Houston. Thorns FC are unbeaten in their last eight matches (6-0-2) against the Dash. Portland leads the all-time series with a record of 9-2-3, including a mark of 5-1-0 at Providence Park. Portland won the first meeting between the two sides this season, earning a 2-1, come-from-behind road win on June 29. In the last match at Providence Park against Houston, Thorns FC recorded a 3-1 win on July 15, 2018, receiving a first-half brace from Horan.

Portland returns to action on Saturday, Aug. 3, playing host to Sky Blue FC at Providence Park. Beginning at 8 p.m. (Pacific), the match will be broadcast on Yahoo! Sports.

Additionally, fans can purchase tickets at the Providence Park box office, which is open Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (Pacific), Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (Pacific) and will be closed on Sunday-Tuesday, unless it is a matchday at Providence Park.
