
Thorns FC Play to 1-1 Draw against OL Reign

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Thorns FC played to a 1-1 draw against OL Reign at Providence Park on Wednesday night. Morgan Weaver put Portland on the board just three minutes into the match, recording her first career NWSL regular season goal. OL Reign found the equalizer off a penalty kick in the final minutes of the match.

With two games left in the season, Thorns FC (12-6-4) sit at the top of the table with 40 points, one point ahead of second-place OL Reign (39pts). Portland has a seven-point lead over the Washington Spirit in third place (33 pts) and an eight-point lead over the Houston Dash (32pts) in fourth place. Portland became the first team to clinch a playoff berth in 2021 last weekend. Thorns FC have qualified for the playoffs in each of the last five NWSL regular seasons. It marks the seventh time Portland has qualified for the playoffs in eight NWSL regular seasons - the most of any team in the league.
Milestone Moments
Meghan Klingenberg made her 100th appearance for Portland. She is the fourth player to hit 100 matches for Thorns FC. Since joining Portland in 2016, Klingenberg ranks third in the league for chances created (157). Morgan Weaver scored her first NWSL regular season goal, and fourth across all competitions for Portland. Weaver is the 10th different player to score for Thorns FC this season.

POR - Morgan Weaver, 3rd minute: Sophia Smith intercepted the ball, dribbled into the box and played a pass that deflected off an OL Reign defender to Morgan Weaver. Receiving the ball with her back to goal, Weaver spun and drove the ball into the lower left corner of the goal.
OLR - Megan Rapinoe (penalty kick), 86th minute: Thorns FC were whistled for a handball in the box. Megan Rapinoe converted the attempt.
