HERRIMAN, Utah - Playing their second match of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup presented by P&G and Secret, Portland Thorns FC earned their first point of the tournament, earning a clean sheet in a scoreless draw against the Chicago Red Stars on Wednesday afternoon. Facing a quick turnaround, Portland takes on the Washington Spirit on Sunday, July 5, at 7 p.m. (Pacific).
Thorns FC Debuts & Starts
Morgan Weaver and Autumn Smithers made their first professional starts in the match against Chicago. Weaver logged 57 minutes in her second appearance of the tournament, while Smithers played all 90 minutes in her tournament debut. Christen Westphal made her first career start for Portland in the match. Simone Charley, Madison Pogarch and Emily Ogle earned their first starts in the Challenge Cup. In addition, Ogle made her tournament debut in the match.
