Thompson Throws One-Hitter Through Seven To Help Edge Barnstormers 4-1

WALDORF, Md. - Throwing a one-hitter through seven innings, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs starting pitcher Daryl Thompson helped earn the series win by shutting down the Lancaster Barnstormers offense tonight with a 4-1 score at Regency Furniture Stadium. After throwing seven spotless frames, relief pitchers Charlie Manning, Eddie Morlan, Jeff Stevens and Jim Ed Warden would close out the rest of the contest by allowing just two hits and one run. The trio of Sean Smith, Renny Osuna and Mike Richard would all contribute to Southern Maryland's four tallies in the third and fifth inning to give the Blue Crabs their second win in as many nights.

Out-running a throw from the shortstop, second baseman Richard would begin the two-out rally in the bottom of the third with a single. Outfielder Sean Smith would then come up to bat and work his way back from a 0-2 count by drawing the walk from Barnstormers starting pitcher Dwayne Pollock. Shortstop Renny Osuna took advantage of the Blue Crabs runners by doubling to right field to score Richard and Smith and give Southern Maryland the early 2-0 lead. Richard and Smith would strike again just two innings later during their next at bat as Richard notched another hit by doubling with again two-outs. Sean Smith would capitalize on Richard's two-out double by belting a two-run home run over the left field wall.
