
Bluefish Top Ducks in Rain-Shortened Affair

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 13, 2013) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 4-0 on Thursday night in a rain-shortened finale of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Bridgeport opened the scoring on a two-run home run by Alexis Gomez in the first inning. They would double their lead on a two-run double by Victor Diaz in the third inning. Long Island tried to rally but could not get on the scoreboard before the rain began to fell in the sixth inning, and the game was called shortly thereafter due to inclement weather.
Bluefish starter Hunter Jones (2-5) picked up the win, tossing five and two-third shutout innings, surrendering just three hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Long Island starter John Brownell suffered the loss, letting up four runs on six hits in six innings of work.
The Ducks begin a seven game road trip on Friday night when they open a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is 7:00 from Clipper Magazine Stadium. MLB veteran Dontrelle Willis toes the rubber for the Ducks while right hander Brian Grening gets the call for Lancaster. The Ducks return to Bethpage Ballpark on Friday, June 21 to open a three-game weekend set with the Sugar Land Skeeters. Duck Tales: With his single in the third inning, Danny Perales extended his hitting streak to six games. Perales is hitting 9-for-22 (.409) in that span...The Ducks finished the homestand with a 5-2 record to mark their first winning homestand of the season...Long Island won back-to-back series for the second time this season. The first came when they took two of three from Southern Maryland May 17-19 and three of four from Camden May 20-24.
