Third-Period Rally Leads Texas to 4-2 Win in Chicago

Rosemont, IL - The Texas Stars (22-13-2-2, 48 points) defeated the Chicago Wolves (21-18-2-2, 46 points) 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Allstate Arena. Trailing 2-1 heading into the third period, the Stars scored three goals to claim a two-goal win. Texas forward Fabian Brunnstrom scored two goals and added an assist, as Texas improved to 4-0-0 against Chicago this season. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (14-7-2) made 31 saves for the win, while Chicago goalie Peter Maninno (12-10-1) stopped 22 of 25 Stars shots in the loss. Defenseman Dan Spang and right wing Colton Sceviour also scored as Texas moved to 11-6-0-1 on the road this year. Stars All-Star center Travis Morin had two assists in the win. Texas will play at 7:05 pm on Friday night in Rockford.

After a scoreless first period, the Wolves opened the scoring early in the second period with a power-play goal 56 seconds into the period by Jared Ross. Chicago center Jason Krog slipped a pass to Ross, who buried his 12th goal of the season for the 1-0 lead. The Wolves struck again for their second power-play goal at 7:43 of the period. Winger Nigel Dawes scored his 20th goal of the season off a feed from Krog for the 2-0 Chicago lead. Texas defenseman Dan Spang stepped into a shot at 18:32, blasting his fourth goal of the year past Peter Mannino. Texas right wing Fabian Brunnstrom and Greg Rallo set up the play, pulling the Stars within a goal at 2-1.

Texas tied the game 1:49 into the third period. Brunnstrom carried deep into the Wolves zone and snapped his 10th goal of the season over the shoulder of Maninno for a 2-2 score. Texas moved in front at 2:32 of the period. Colton Sceviour redirected a Maxime Fortunus shot for his seventh goal of the year and a 3-2 Stars lead. Brunnstrom added his second goal of the night with 58 seconds left in regulation, an empty-netter that gave Texas the 4-2 win.

The Texas Stars continue a three-game road trip Friday, January 14th in Rockford at 7:05 PM. Texas will also make a stop in Peoria before heading back to Cedar Park Center. The Stars return home on Tuesday, January 18th at 7:30 PM to take on the Grand Rapids Griffins. Every Tuesday, fans may bring any HEB store brand food product to receive $5 off their ticket price.
