Laval Rocket News Release
UTICA - The Laval Rocket faced off against the divisional rival Utica Comets at the Adirondack Bank Center on Wednesday night in the second of their four consecutive road games, where one goal and one assist from Michael Carcone lead the Comets to a 3-2 victory over the Rocket.
Despite outshooting the Comets 9-2 in the first 20 minutes, it was Utica who opened the scoring seven minutes into the period when Carcone deked out Charlie Lindgren on a breakaway for his fourth goal of the season. The 1-0 Utica lead held for the remainder of the first.
With less than three minutes played in the second Nikita Jevpalovs beat Thatcher Demko for his third goal of the season with Lukas Vejdemo and Michal Moravcik with the helpers. In his first start in net this season for Utica, Demko earned the first-star honor with 19 saves. Jevpalovs' goal was the first of two Rocket goals scored in the period, as Alex Belzile wristed his second of the year low on Demko's blocker side while the Rocket were shorthanded at the 14:37 mark. Joël Bouchard's players took a 2-1 lead after forty minutes with an 18-9 lead in shots, but Lindgren had to make a big pad save on Reid Boucher in the final minutes of the second frame in order to maintain that lead heading into the third.
A goal from Dylan Blujus early in the final frame tied the game at three and brought the game back to its starting point, with each team fighting for the game-winning goal. The difference maker, however, ended up being a powerplay goal for the Comets- Evan McEney found the back of the net while Lindgren was screened, and the Rocket were unable to score with an extra attacker and Lindgren on the bench.
