CHARLOTTETOWN - Goaltenders were the stars of the show in a 2-1 victory for the Charlottetown Islanders over the Cape Breton Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles weathered early pressure from Charlottetown to strike first, as Logan Camp buried a rebound past Charlottetown goaltender Oliver Satny. Both teams would have ample opportunity to hit the scoresheet before period's end: Jérémy Langlois went to coast to coast on a brekaway before being denied by Satny, and then on the same power play a prime short handed chance for Michael Horth was denied by Nicolas Ruccia.

Camp was sent to the box for a slash on the Horth play, but there were no goals on the ensuing 4 on 4 or Charlottetown power play. The teams played four on four again at the end of the period with Camp and Zachary Roy in the penalty box, but neither team could find the back of the net.

Charlottetown did score at even strength in the second period though, courtesy of a heavy snap shot from captain Brett Budgell before the eight minute mark. The Eagles were able to dodge a bullet by killing off a penalty not long after, and similarly were unable to score on a 26 second five on three later in the middle stanza.

The Islanders pressed in the third period, outshooting the Eagles 17-7, and finally broke through at 12:39 when Jakub Brabenec fired a shot that bounced off of the crossbar and over the goal line. Still down 2-1 with 2:20 to go, Ruccia headed to the bench for an extra attacker.

The Eagles pushed to the end, winning the faceoff with under six seconds to play and NIcholas Girouard being denied by Satny. The Eagles were unable to get a shot from the second faceoff and Charlottetown skated away with a 2-1 victory.

Satny picked up the win, stopping 29 of 30 shots, while Ruccia turned aside 38 of 40 in the loss.

The Eagles will now return home for another instalment of the Battle of Nova Scotia as the Halifax Mooseheads visit the Nest on Thursday night!
