November 1, 2018 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights News Release
Two goals in 10 seconds started a three goal third period for Johnstown, leading to a 5-2 Tomahawks win Thursday afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre.
A pair of power play goals came for the Tomahawks before their surge in the final frame. Davis Pennington scored the only goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Johnstown is 13-4, leading both the East Division, along with the NAHL as a whole. The Knights are 5-10-1, having lost six straight.
Wilkes-Barre was given the first power play of the game early in the first, but surrendered four penalties of their own, leading to the first goal. Oliver Benwell dug at a puck in the crease on Knights' goalie Zach Stejskal before finally sliding it under the right pad.
Benwell scored another power play goal in the second after Pennington got on the board for Wilkes-Barre. The blue liner's shot sailed in from the right side wall on Johnstown's Carter McPhail to tie the game, but Benwell followed for Johnstown with a tic-tac-goal down low to finish the play.
The Knights stayed within reach headed into the third but were quickly cut down by two goals in just 10 seconds. Bennett Stockdale held the puck around the perimeter, then cut toward the slot and had a soft backhander that was angled just right to beat Stejskal for the 3-1 lead.
Next, Pavel Kharin won a face-off in center, skated down the wing, passed to Carson Briere, then Mitchell Hale, who managed to beat Stejskal with a wrist shot. Joey Kile scored the last goal of the game, making it 5-1 with 8:09 to play.
Samuel Vyletelka was then brought in to relieve Stejskal, making four stops on as many shots.
Friday is a new day and another opportunity for the Knights to break the funk of their recent losing streak. It marks the final time the Johnstown Tomahawks come to Revolution Ice Centre during the 2018-19 season. Puck drop is set for 7pm.
