IceRays' 11th Annual Stars & Stripes Night Next Weekend
November 1, 2018 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Corpus Christi IceRays will host their 11th annual Stars & Stripes Night, presented by First Title Company, Whataburger, KIII-TV3, Mike Shaw Toyota, IBEW Local 278, the Renard Family, and Get Air. The game honors area members of the military and first responders, and will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10. Faceoff is at 7:05 PM as the IceRays host the Amarillo Bulls at American Bank Center.
The IceRays staff and players have been delivering ticket vouchers to first responders, law enforcement officials and military members around the area. All members of the military-both past and present-can show their military ID at the American Bank Center Box Office to receive free entry to the game.
The event originated when Brent Chesney, CEO of First Title Company, and former IceRays General Manager Pat Dunn sought to honor those who protect the Coastal Bend community and beyond. Since its inception during the 2008-2009 season, First Title Company and Whataburger, along with numerous other generous sponsors, have teamed together to organize and support the theme night and its message. Over the years, it has been one of the most popular games of the year, averaging over 5,000 fans in attendance. Last season, 5,115 attended and the 2014-2015 edition drew a junior franchise attendance record of 6,965 fans.
"Stars and Stripes Night is definitely one of the highlights of every IceRays season," said IceRays General Manager Michael Wood. "It's our small way of saying thank you to all those who protect the citizens of the Coastal Bend as well as those who protect our great nation and the freedoms we hold dear."
First Title CEO Brent Chesney added, "It is an honor and privilege to be able to recognize the men and women who serve our community and our nation. When Pat and I set out to establish Stars and Stripes Night, we knew it would have a great impact, but it has been bigger than we ever imagined. To be able to thank all those first responders and military members by being a part of this Stars and Stripes game is truly an honor for me individually and for First Title Company."
"Stars and Stripes Night wouldn't be possible without the men and women who selflessly serve this great nation of ours," said Joe Lukefahr, Whataburger Director of Operations. "Whataburger is proud to honor our troops and we look forward to an evening of family fun as we support the IceRays right here in our hometown of Corpus Christi."
The military-themed jerseys the IceRays will wear on both Friday and Saturday will be available to the public for bidding in the post-game jersey auction immediately following Saturday's game in Section 112. The IceRays will also be hosting a post-game skate with the players, presented by Braselton Homes, immediately following both games.
