
Third Inning is the Charm; Renegades Beat Cardinals 5-2

Fishkill, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades scored all 5 of their runs in the 3rd inning tonight as they defeated the visiting New Jersey Cardinals 5-2 tonight at Dutchess Stadium. Tony Peguero (W, 3-0, 0.53) allowed just four hits and one earned run while striking out six in six innings of work to earn the victory. Chad Orvella collected his fifth save, taking over the New-York Penn League lead in that category.
The sold-out crowd of 4,494 saw the 'Gades touch up New Jersey starter Mark Michael (L, 0-1, 5.19) for five runs in the third inning. Center fielder Nate Dion got the rally started with an RBI double to left field that scored second baseman Fernando Puebla. Dion would come around to score on right fielder Matt Rico's fielder's choice. Later in the inning, catcher Raymond Serrano singled to center field, scoring Rico. Third baseman Gabby Martinez capped the rally with his two-run double to right, bringing home Serrano and first baseman Joshua Kendrick. Martinez finished the night 2 for 4 with 2 RBI to lead the offense. Serrano went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Dion stole his sixth base of the year.
The Renegades bullpen came up big again on this night. Michael Navaroli, Antonio Perez, and Orvella combined to allow no runs, two hits and one walk while fanning four Cardinals in four innings. Hudson Valley reduced its team ERA to 2.36 in tonight's win.
Tonight was All-Scout/Price Chopper Night at Dutchess Stadium, sponsored by Price Chopper and K104. There was a Boy and Girl Scout parade preceding the game, and all Scouts were invited to a sleep over in the outfield at Dutchess Stadium.
The Renegades and Cardinals conclude their three-game series tomorrow night at Skylands Park in Augusta, NJ Aaron Gangi (0-0, 2.84) will start for the 'Gades; New Jersey's starter is Erik Drown (0-1, 10.13). The Renegades return to Dutchess Stadium on Thursday to face the Williamsport Crosscutters on Cap Night, sponsored by Allstate Insurance and K104. First pitch is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
