BURLINGTON, VT --- Wade Robinson went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Jose DeLeon allowed one unearned run and two hits over six innings as the Tri-City ValleyCats handed Vermont its ninth straight loss with a 7-3 victory over the Expos in New York-Penn League action Tuesday night at Centennial Field.
Robinson had an RBI single in the first inning and then another RBI single in the sixth inning when Tri-City scored three times to take a 6-1 lead. Four of the ValleyCats seven runs in the game were unearned with the help of six Vermont errors.
DeLeon (2-0) gave up the unearned run and two hits in the first inning, then retired 17 of the last 18 batters he faced for his second victory. The Expos fought back from the 6-1 deficit to get within 7-3 and have the bases loaded with one out in the eighth inning, but Jonthan Beltre struckout the final five batters of the game for his third save of the season.
Devin Perrin (0-2) allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits over four innings to take the loss for Vermont (1-14), which with five hits was held to five hits or less in a game for the eighth time in 15 games.
Randy McGarvey and Edwin Maysonet both added two hits for the ValleyCats (7-7), who have now won four straight games over the Expos.
The loss means day four of "Slumper Party" in the Vermont dugout as four members of the Expos front office (GM C.J. Knudsen, Asst. GM Mike Simpson, PR Director Adrienne Wilson and Ticket Manager Nate Cloutier) continue to sleep in the dugout until Vermont wins and breaks its losing streak.
The two teams will wrap up a five-game series at Centennial Field on Wednesday night with Clint Everts (1-2) facing Tri-City's Josh Muecke (1-0) on USA TodaySports Weekly night.
