Washington Wild Things News Release

The Wild Things' bats came alive just in time Wednesday night to beat the Paints in Chillicothe, 10-4, and avoided being swept for the first time since 2002.

Washington jumped on the scoreboard early, scoring a run in the first off L.J. Biernbaum's single. Chillicothe (17-22) came back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a couple of runs.

Washington (25-13) tied the game in the third, but Chillicothe took back the lead when Mark Hamilton hit a solo home run in the third. That was the last time the Paints would lead as the Wild Things took control of the game in the fifth.

With one out in the fifth, Randy McGarvey hit into what looked to be a routine double play, but the throw from the second baseman bounced off Bill Greenwell's helmet and into center-field. Mike Arbinger and Biernbaum crossed the plate making the score 5-3.

Brandon Cornell kept the rally going with a triple, scoring Greenwell and McGarvey. Cornell scored two batters later when Joel Buchenauer singled.

Washington starter Ryan Ewin (3-1) earned the win, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits in five innings of work. The Paints' Josh Rahrer (3-2) received the loss after giving up six runs in 4 1/3 innings.

The Wild Things have now won 14 of their past 17 games and continue to battle Evansville for first place in the East Division of the Frontier League.

The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, return home Thursday to begin a three-game series with Florence. Tickets can be purchased at Falconi Field or online at www.washingtonwildthings.com.
