There's Snow Outside, But Soccer Continues with the Colorado Rapids

Colorado Rapids News Release
The Colorado weather these days sets up the perfect scenario for local soccer players to take their skills indoors. And the Rapids have teamed up with the Gold Crown Foundation to hold a Futsal (five-a-side indoor soccer) Tournament Dec. 31-Jan. 2.
Many youth players have put their cleats away for the winter, but the Rapids are encouraging youth coaches and teams to get their gear out of the closet and get kitted up for the holiday event. There will be competition for teams ranging from under-9 to under-16 age groups.
Indoor soccer has been played in the United States for years and the USA has produced some great futsal players, including those that claimed the silver medal at the 1992 FIFA World Indoor Tournament in Hong Kong.
So, instead of sitting around the house and complaining about the non-soccer friendly frigid weather, why not get on the phone, call all your players and get them signed up for this great event?
The Rapids' Jamie Smith says each team will get four games and will most likely play them all in a single day. Games will consist of two, 20-minute halves. There is no limit on roster size so sign up everyone you can think of and you'll have no problems with numbers.
"It should be a great deal of fun for the teams who participate," said Smith. "We hope that this is the start of something that we can build and have more futsal competitions in the future."
The futsal experience is good for all age groups. With the smaller field, it forces players to play in a compact setting where players get more touches and a chance to develop speed-of-thought as it pertains to game decisions.
Entry fee is $250 per team and all games will be played at the Gold Crown Field House, 150 South Harlan, Lakewood, 80226.
