Grant Establishes New Team Record
Previously, the longest point streak for the Stockton Heat was three games that was accomplished by Drew Shore twice and Bill Arnold once, however, Derek Grant has now surpassed that streak and hopes to extend it as his point streak has hit five-straight games.
Grant has now taken the team lead in points with 16 thanks in part to 8 points he's had in his last five games. Not only that, but Grant also spent 9 games with the Calgary Flames this season, making it that much more impressive that the forward from Abbotsford, British Columbia has managed to score 16 points in just 16 games for the Heat.
Besides the 11 goals and 16 points, the other things that Grant leads the team on include:
- Shooting percentage (15.5%)
- Plus/Minus (+5)
- Game Winning Goals (3)
- First Goals (Tied with 2)
- Multi-point games (6)
- Multi-goal games (4)
He also owns the Heat's team record of 11-shots in a single game (December 16) and shares the team record of most goals in a game with two along with Garnet Hathaway, Turner Elson, Kenny Agostino, Emile Poirier, Markus Granlund and Bryce Van Brabant.
Heat Face Busy Stretch of the Season
The Heat have played the fewest games (along with the Ontario Reign) with 24-games to this point in the season, however all that began to change in December and it carries through January. The Heat had a busy December playing 11 games and sees that same number of games on the other side of the calendar year with the Heat playing 11 games in January as well before the team plays 10 games in February, 13 in March and eight in just 17 days of April.
The Heat find themselves in the midst of their busiest portion of the schedule thus far playing six games in nine nights. Tuesday's game in Ontario will be the third game of that stretch in just the fourth night.
During the upcoming month, the Heat will also play two brand new opponents in a road game in the midwest against the Iowa Wild and a pair of home games against the Manitoba Moose. More on one of those games....right....now!
Teddy Bear Toss Coming Up on January 23
One of those games pitting the Heat against the Manitoba Moose this month, specifically the one on January 23, will feature one of our favorite promotions as Teddy Bear Toss returns for the 11th season in Stockton.
The Heat host the event for the first time, where you, the fans, are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to the game and once the Heat score (make sure it's a good goal too because San Diego had this problem this season), fans chuck their teddy bears and stuffed animals onto the ice which will then be collected, counted and distributed to local charities courtesy of the United Way.
This year, the Heat's ownership group has already seen one team they own, the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL, break world records for the amount of bears collected 28,815 bears and stuffed animals.
While the Heat might not be able to keep up with the Hitmen, one team should certainly help motivate Stockton fans to bring a bunch of bears to the game as the Heat's big rival, the Bakersfield Condors, collected 7,908 and we want to beat that number right here at Stockton Arena.
