Iowa's Jeremy Smith Named CCM/AHL Player of the Week

December 28, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Iowa Wild goaltender Jeremy Smith has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 27, 2015.

Smith backstopped the Wild to their first winning streak of the season last week, turning aside 52 of 54 shots in consecutive victories over Central Division foes.

On Saturday night at Chicago, Smith made 26 saves and allowed only a power-play goal in the third period as Iowa defeated the Wolves, 2-1. Then on Sunday evening, Smith stopped 26 shots as the Wild put an end to their 12-game home winless skid with a 3-1 victory over Rockford at Wells Fargo Arena. For the week, Smith was 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .963 save percentage.

Smith has made 16 appearances for Iowa in 2015-16, going 3-10-2 with a 3.04 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. A seventh-year pro, Smith has a record of 112-81-17 in 221 career AHL games with Iowa, Providence, Springfield and Milwaukee, compiling a 2.45 GAA and a .916 save percentage while recording 12 shutouts. The native of Dearborn, Mich., was originally a second-round draft choice by Nashville in 2007 and is on loan to Iowa from the Boston Bruins, where he signed as a free agent on July 2, 2014.

In recognition of his achievement, Smith will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Wild home game.
