Central Valley Coyotes News Release
Editors Note: Coyotes first-year defensive specialist VonKeith Spencer came to Central Valley as a free-agent after sitting last season out. Spencer last played in Rochester in 2002, leading the Brigade in tackles with 57, (47-solo) and 8 interceptions to go along with his 15 pass deflections.
This season Spencer is looking to rise back to the top as a feature defensive specialist in the af2. He currently leads the team in tackles with 22.5, interceptions (4) and pass deflections (7). His comments on the Coyotes season will appear regularly on centralvalleycoyotes.com.

All I have to say about the Green Bay game is too many mental mistakes. We can't afford to have breakdowns in the game like that, including myself. We were going back and forth in the first half and then in the second half they took advantage of our mistakes. I'm proud of my teammates though, there wasn't a single guy out on that field that was giving 100% physically. We just have to get ready for Rio Grande Valley this week.
During the game in Green Bay I banged up my shoulder pretty good, but I'm feeling good now. We have great trainers out here, like Rex, Tara, Steve and Yugi who all help our team get back to 100%. It was just a stinger I caught after making a tackle in the second quarter. You better believe I'm going to be on that field Saturday night flying around trying to make something happen.
Tuesday night after practice the whole team had a meeting to talk about what's going on and how we can get on the right track. The major point I got out of the meeting was potential. We just haven't played to our potential yet, and until we do we're not going to see the win column. I think the meeting helped out a lot, it brought us closer together as a team and last night during practice it was like there was a whole new team out there that's hungry for a win.
My teammates were joking with me this week saying I was taking away all the interceptions and I'm moving up the ladder on the league leader's board, but I try not to keep up with my stats. I didn't even know I was tied for second in the league in interceptions until my roommate Kenyatte told me. I know I was doing pretty well, but I also try and keep myself level headed. Sometimes if you start focusing on how many interceptions and tackles you have then you start trying to do too much on the field and that starts affecting the team. All I can do is go out and play my game, if I do that, then the tackles and the interceptions will come. This is why you watch tape and work hard on the practice field.
We play a pretty good team this week, Rio Grande Valley looks pretty good on film, but I'm sure we do too, even though we're 0-5. Tape doesn't really let you judge how good a team is going to be when you play them on Saturday. I know it's an old cliché, but anybody can beat anybody on any given day. We just have to prepare mentally and physically during practice and then translate that onto the playing field on Saturday night.
We're at home this week, what more can you ask for? We get the chance to play in front of our home crowd in Fresno. I want to thank all the fan's that come out and support our team each week. They're what keeps me going when I'm tired out there in the fourth quarter. Last home game I was tired, and I looked in the stands and saw a little kid pumping his hands and telling me to go harder, it was like I felt is energy flowing through my body. You better believe I broke up that next pass. This is sports entertainment, they paid for a ticket and I'm going to give them the best show they've ever seen.
This message goes out to everyone in Fresno, come see your Central Valley Coyotes and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
