San Diego Riptide News Release

SAN DIEGO – In their fifth roster move of the week, the San Diego Riptide were assigned OL/DL Rob Moore today by the league office.

The six-foot-four-inch, 280-pound Moore is in his first season in af2 after having played at practically every other level of football. His resume includes a stint at tight end for the 1998 NCAA National Champion Tennessee Volunteers as well as a season playing for legendary Grambling coach Eddie Robinson.

Moore began his collegiate career at the University of the Pacific, but transferred after one year when the school folded its football program. During his sophomore season at San Joaquin Delta College, Moore was named the team captain and took home All-Conference honors. He then transferred again, this time to Grambling State in 1997 where he was named to the South Western Athletic Conference All-Conference Team at tight end. After a year at Grambling, Moore had a chance to play Division I football and transferred to the University of Tennessee, where he helped the Volunteers to a National Championship win over Florida State in 1998.

After college he was signed as a free agent by the San Diego Chargers in 2002 before being allocated to the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe. He has also spent time as a high school football coach in Santa Ana, California.

The Riptide will take on the Bakersfield Blitz this Saturday at Centennial Garden in Bakersfield before returning home on May 22 to take on the two-time af2 champion Quad City Steamwheelers. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive free Riptide ballcaps, courtesy of Assil and Flowers Vision Center.
